identify a 1000 square meter grid square. Six digits identify a 100-meter grid square. Eight digits identify a 10-meter grid square. To locate a point by grid reference is a simple matter. We follow a simple rule of map reading: READ RIGHT AND UP 507 5. COMPASS TERMS AND CONCEPTS
Improve your map reading skills by learning how to read a 4-figure, 6-figure or 8-figure national grid reference. This grid reference finder is suitable for beginners and includes a short 'how to' video.

The location of (2,5) is shown on the coordinate grid below. The x -coordinate is 2. The y -coordinate is 5. To locate (2,5), move 2 units to the right on the x -axis and 5 units up on the y -axis. The order in which you write x - and y -coordinates in an ordered pair is very important. The x -coordinate always comes first, followed by the y
This ruler set was designed to be used with the DeLorme® Atlas & Gazetteer for Missouri. It contains 7 ruler pairs for measuring latitude longitude coordinates at latitudes ranging from 35° to 41° on a map with a scale of 1:200,000. It also contains rulers for measuring statute miles and kilometers. The pages of the atlas have a printed lat/lon grid shown with thin black lines.
How do you get the 8 digit grid on Google Maps? To access Google Maps, click on the image below: To use Google Maps position the map and, using the zoom tool on the left-hand side of the screen, zoom in to the maximum level to find the place for which you want a Grid Reference. For example, the above lines of latitude and longitude would be written as "15°N, 30°E." The confusion comes in when soldiers try to use a map to get a 10-digit grid coordinate, which equates to a 1 meter precision. A 1:50,000 scale map is only accurate to 50m 90% of the time so a 6 digit (100m precision) or an 8 digit

UTM grid coordinates are expressed as a distance in meters to the east, referred to as the "easting", and a distance in meters to the north, referred to as the "northing". For example 4282000 mN. becomes 82. Because pilots and sailors navigate over much greater distances they still favor the latitude longitude coordinate system.

Ordnance Survey National Grid For mapping purposes the UK is divided up into 100km by 100km squares, this is the national grid system. The zero easting lies off the Western isles, and the 7 Easting lies in the North Sea. (ie 700km, or 7x 100km grid squares to cover the width of the country). In the
Its coordinates are latitude: 41° 56' 54.3732" N, longitude: 87° 39' 19.2024" W. To read it, start with the first set of numbers, or the latitude. That line reads, 41 degrees, 56 minutes, 54.3732 seconds north. The longitude reads as 87 degrees, 39 minutes, 19.2024 seconds west. If you look at a globe marked with the longitudinal and

3. Read using method #1. Usually, military grid maps contain 6 digit grid coordinates, but this is not always the case. Here is how to read grid references, regardless of the number of digit coordinates present. Read the figures from left to right. This means you will read the figures along the Eastings lines.

The six-digit grid coordinate divides each grid square of the four-digit system into ten equal parts, resulting in even smaller grid sectors. Example: Grid Coordinate Calculation. Assuming we have access to the relevant topographic map, we can follow these steps to determine the six-digit grid coordinates for spot elevation 210:
The geographic coordinate system ( GCS) is a spherical or geodetic coordinate system for measuring and communicating positions directly on the Earth as latitude and longitude. [1] It is the simplest, oldest and most widely used of the various spatial reference systems that are in use, and forms the basis for most others.

How to count: When counting lengths on a coordinate grid, be sure to count the unit lengths (segments). Do not count "boxes". In the diagram at the right, AB = 3 units by counting. If the scale on the horizontal axis indicates, for example, that each "horizontal segment" on the grid represents "2 units" (instead of 1 unit), then AB = 6 by counting.
